Freeze and Rendering Tape

Hi, I was wondering if its legal to freeze your tracks when using CPU heavy Tape Emulation plugs on every track when mixing a big session save on CPU? So when you start your session just apply tape to every track and render immediately so that the audio has the character of the tape but frees up the CPU.

Hi Jeffrey, I know exactly what you are thinking because I have had the same thought process. But then if you think of the way we do a all faders down and start channel stripping, this doesn’t work. Because of that, I don’t do the ‘tape everything’ approach. I freeze each channel after I have done just that individual channel strip. That way, you rarely run up against CPU issues. In Cubase, the last 2 inserts and the sends etc. are not frozen so you can still then add the sidechain etc.
